overview

Cyber security is becoming an increasingly prevalent threat within modern day business and operations. We are observing an ongoing digitalisation in operations and services resulting in more vulnerabilities within an organisation’s framework. With some of the most critical infrastructure, pipelines and operations now being controlled by digital networks, Cyber Security is no longer merely an information risk but a corporate responsibility.

SAE Media Group’s 5th annual Oil & Gas Cyber Security conference will bring together the leading specialists in the field and provide a platform of discourse for cyber security professionals within the Oil & Gas Sector to address some of the most pressing challenges and developments. With cyber-attacks becoming more sophisticated, targeted and malicious many factors will play into an organisation’s ability to prevent, detect, respond and mitigate a breach.

• Discuss best practise in supply chain management threat mitigation, evaluating framework standards, practices and guidelines
• Understand the need for greater awareness and acknowledgement of risk, prioritising assets and allowing for timely mitigation
• Learn about the latest strategic activities used to protect against SCADA networks and critical infrastructure
• Listen to the latest industry relevant case studies
• Ensure compliance and regulatory awareness, with presentations from legislative bodies

Thom Langford

Risk is often seen as a dirty word in business. It is a thing that needs to be reduced to nothing, and has no possible good use in an organisation, especially a security programme. This couldn’t be more wrong! Risk is an inherent part of any business, and yet it is often poorly recognised and leveraged in the security organisation.
• The initial interpretation of risk and how it is often misunderstood
• The measurement of risk, and how some systems work and other don’t
• The effective treatment of risk, and how sometimes the obvious thing to do can be the wrong thing to do

Waterfall Security’s mission is to revolutionize the way industries protect their physical assets and processes from remote cyberattacks. With patented unidirectional technology embedded in each product of Waterfall’s portfolio, our customers are able to balance business and operational needs with their required level of cybersecurity. Business requirements are fulfilled, and operational processes continue in a safer environment without risks of remote attacks and malware propagation from the external connections. Since 2007, Waterfall Security is the global leader in industrial cybersecurity technology. Waterfall products, based on its innovative unidirectional security gateway technology, represent an evolutionary alternative to firewalls. The flagship product, the Unidirectional Security Gateway, creates an impassable, physical barrier eliminating the possibility of external online attacks from reaching the industrial environment. Through the Unidirectional Security Gateway, real-time access to information from the industrial site is made available, enabling IT/OT integration, operational visibility by headquarters, vendor monitoring, industrial cloud services, and many other advanced and critical business needs. Waterfall offers a comprehensive solution portfolio for a variety of business and operational requirements in many industries. Each solution enables business and operational processes to continue without risk of remote attacks, and does so cost effectively. Having eliminated interactive remote control attacks, industrial sites benefit from cost reductions at many levels. Maintenance costs of the Waterfall technology are dramatically lower than any alternative. In addition, using Waterfall’s technology reduces the costs and facilitates compliance with various governmental regulations and best-practice recommendations such as NERC CIP, NRC, NIST, CFATS, ANSSI and others. The company's growing list of customers include national infrastructures, power plants, nuclear plants, on/off-shore platforms, refineries, manufacturing plants, utility companies, plus many more. Deployed throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Waterfall products support the widest range of leading industrial remote monitoring platforms, applications, databases and protocols in the market.

Find the latest information on Cyber Security, Access Control Management, Cyber Security Technologies and Markets. Cyber threats to federal information systems and cyber-based critical infrastructures are evolving and growing. These threats can be unintentional and intentional, targeted or nontargeted, and can come from a variety of sources, such as foreign nations engaged in espionage and information warfare, criminals, hackers, virus writers, and disgruntled employees and contractors working within an organization. Moreover, these groups and individuals have a variety of attack techniques at their disposal, and cyber exploitation activity has grown more sophisticated, more targeted, and more serious. As government, private sector, and personal activities continue to move to networked operations, as digital systems add ever more capabilities, as wireless systems become more ubiquitous, and as the design, manufacture, and service of information technology have moved overseas, the threat will continue to grow. In the absence of robust security programs, agencies have experienced a wide range of incidents involving data loss or theft, computer intrusions, and privacy breaches, underscoring the need for improved security practices. These developments have led government officials to become increasingly concerned about the potential for a cyber attack.

    WHAT IS CPD?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development’. It is essentially a philosophy, which maintains that in order to be effective, learning should be organised and structured. The most common definition is:

‘A commitment to structured skills and knowledge enhancement for Personal or Professional competence’

CPD is a common requirement of individual membership with professional bodies and Institutes. Increasingly, employers also expect their staff to undertake regular CPD activities.

Undertaken over a period of time, CPD ensures that educational qualifications do not become obsolete, and allows for best practice and professional standards to be upheld.

CPD can be undertaken through a variety of learning activities including instructor led training courses, seminars and conferences, e:learning modules or structured reading.

    CPD AND PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTES

There are approximately 470 institutes in the UK across all industry sectors, with a collective membership of circa 4 million professionals, and they all expect their members to undertake CPD.

For some institutes undertaking CPD is mandatory e.g. accountancy and law, and linked to a licence to practice, for others it’s obligatory. By ensuring that their members undertake CPD, the professional bodies seek to ensure that professional standards, legislative awareness and ethical practices are maintained.

CPD Schemes often run over the period of a year and the institutes generally provide online tools for their members to record and reflect on their CPD activities.

TYPICAL CPD SCHEMES AND RECORDING OF CPD (CPD points and hours)

Professional bodies and Institutes CPD schemes are either structured as ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based.

‘Input’ based schemes list a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. These schemes can also use different ‘currencies’ such as points, merits, units or credits, where an individual must accumulate the number required. These currencies are usually based on time i.e. 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.

‘Output’ based schemes are learner centred. They require individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives. These schemes also list different ways to achieve the learning goals e.g. training courses, seminars or e:learning, which enables an individual to complete their CPD through their preferred mode of learning.

The majority of Input and Output based schemes actively encourage individuals to seek appropriate CPD activities independently.

As a formal provider of CPD certified activities, SAE Media Group can provide an indication of the learning benefit gained and the typical completion. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning, and record it correctly in line with their professional body’s or employers requirements.

    GLOBAL CPD

Increasingly, international and emerging markets are ‘professionalising’ their workforces and looking to the UK to benchmark educational standards. The undertaking of CPD is now increasingly expected of any individual employed within today’s global marketplace.

    CPD Certificates

We can provide a certificate for all our accredited events. To request a CPD certificate for a conference , workshop, master classes you have attended please email events@saemediagroup.com
